Robert S, who is from the local neighbourhood of San Diego, has been a frequent visitor to the casino since 2014. Casino staff were standing in amazement as the punter hit the jackpot of $1,664,509.91 on the machine.

Speaking to NBC San Diego a few days removed from his jackpot success, he revealed his astonishment.

“I’m still in shock. I couldn’t sleep for two days. I was up tossing and turning and thought they would call me and say that the machine malfunctioned.”

Robert’s win comes weeks before the Californian casino plans to open its $50 million expansion. He reportedly told staff that he would return to the casino as he typically does, and would continue playing on the penny slot.

He also revealed to NBC that the money will be used to invest in his future, and will help only feed his excitement for an early retirement.

The vice president of gaming operations at the casino, Randy Reedy was thrilled for the winning punter. He said
