    What Is Casino Hold 'em?

Casino hold'em dealer at the casino
In Casino Hold'em, you play against a dealer - which is very different from traditional poker

In the last 20 years, Texas Hold ‘em poker has become the most commonly-played game in US casinos. The simplicity and fast, exciting gameplay has cemented it as a bonafide classic card game.

In the late 1990s, a version of Texas Hold 'em poker was developed to be played against the casino instead of other players. It was named Casino Hold ‘em, and is today played at over 1000 online casinos.  In this article, we’ll discuss all the basics of this poker variant.

If you’re asking which casinos can I play Casino Hold 'em at, then have a look at the recommended websites. If you’re new to the game and you’d like to know how to play, we’ll cover that too.

There’s no doubt about it, Texas Hold ‘em is the biggest poker variant in the world today. When you’re playing at online casinos, however, you won’t usually see Texas Hold ‘em games except in the standalone multiplayer poker networks. Casino Hold 'em is the next best thing, and most of the big-name online casinos will have it available.

We’ll discuss the bonuses and free play modes that are available a little later. If you’re new to the game, these are definitely worth checking out as they enable you to learn the game risk-free. They are also handy for experienced players who want to try out new strategies. For this reason, the larger Casino Hold 'em casinos are probably best, as the smaller sites usually don’t have these options available.

    Casino Hold 'em Rules

The Casino Hold 'em rules are very similar to Texas Hold ‘em, with only a few variations. The game is played with your usual 52 card deck, and each player will make an Ante bet. You’re also able to make an AA bonus side bet if you wish. This is based on the poker value of your two personal cards and the first three ‘flop’ cards.

To start, the dealer will give two face-down cards to all the players (including the dealer himself). Three cards will then be dealt face up to the table (the ‘flop’). After checking your cards, you then have to decide to either (a) fold, and lose your Ante bet, or (b) call, which is a bet of double the Ante.

The dealer will deal two more cards face up on the table if one or more players makes a call bet. The players and the dealer must then make the best five-card hand they can from their two cards and the five communal cards on the table. Each player’s hand is then compared to the dealer’s.

The dealer needs at least a pair of 4s to qualify. In the event that the dealer has less than a pair of 4s, the call bet is a push (draw) and the Ante bet is paid out according to the AnteWin paytable.

    • If the dealer has a pair of 4s or better, and your hand is better than the dealer's, then the Ante bet pays according to the AnteWin paytable and the call bet pays 1 to 1.
    • If the dealer has a pair of 4s or better and the hand is the same as yours, all bets are push (draw).
    • If the dealer has a pair of 4s or better and the hand is better than yours, you lose all bets.

That about sums up the most important rules of casino hold ’em.

    Casino Hold 'em Bonus

If you’re new to the game, finding a Casino Hold 'em bonus is a good way to learn. This enables you to bet with real money, but you don’t have to worry about depleting your bankroll.

The biggest online casinos offer very lucrative deposit match bonuses and promotions to bring in new players. You can then use your bonus cash from these promotions on the Casino Hold 'em table game.

Be sure to read the terms and conditions of these bonuses, however. Stipulations such as wagering requirements may mean that you’ll be unable to withdraw any winnings from your bonus credit. You will, however, be able to play the live Casino Hold 'em games that are available, as these will not be featured in the free demo modes (see below).

    Play Casino Hold 'em Online

If you’ve just started to play Casino Hold 'em online, another great way to learn the rules is to find a casino offering a free demo mode. This means you can play all day long without ever losing any real money. You won’t win anything either, but there’s no better way to practice the game. If you’re a seasoned player, the demo mode also allows you to try new techniques and hone your strategy risk-free.

One downside of the demo mode is that you can’t experience the thrill of the live dealer games. But then you can always use your bonus credit. The live dealer version of Casino Hold ‘em is the closest you can get to playing on an actual casino floor. Many of the bigger casino brands will even have software that enables you to chat to the dealers in real-time. It’s definitely worth checking out, so be sure to give it a go.

What is the house edge of Casino Hold'em?

Depending on the type of game you play, you could be looking at a 2.50% house edge.

Is there a Casino Hold'em strategy?

You want to try and play as much as possible, as you will be paying an ante for each hand. If you have a pair or higher, always call. For more detailed strategy, see our tips above.

How much can you win in Casino Hold'em?

Using the Evolution Gaming version, you can win up to 100x your stake for a Royal Flush. This version of the game also comes with a progressive jackpot. This prize can be won on a seven card flush - and currently stands at £2million+.

Which is the best Casino Hold'em game?

The table from Evolution Gaming is one of the best out there - as it offers the exclusive progressive jackpot at no additional cost. The quality of the live streaming is also unmatched.
