Roulette needs no introduction, but its different variants do. One of the more popular types is European roulette. In this guide you’ll learn about the European wheel and rules so you can play it like a pro. However, if you’re eager to dive straight into the action, peruse through our list of top European roulette casinos and pick a site to start playing right away.
What Is European Roulette?
Of the main variants of roulette, European is definitely more popular than American. This is because the wheel only has 37 pockets. Both versions have the same bets and payouts. Yet, since the European wheel has one less pocket, you have a better chance of winning.
All 37 pockets on the European roulette wheel are of an equal size. Therefore, the ball has an equal chance of landing in any pocket.

European Roulette
So what is European roulette? Quite simply, it’s one of three main versions of the game. Alongside European roulette, there’s French roulette and American roulette. The main difference between French and European roulette compared to its American counterpart is that their wheel only has 37 numbered pockets verses 38 found on the US wheel.
When it comes to playing European roulette, you simply choose your bet, confirm it and watch as the game proceeds. If the ball lands in a pocket you’ve placed a bet on, you’ll receive a payout. Essentially, that’s all there is to it.
You’ll find roulette is one of the easiest and quickest table games to learn and play. There’s nothing required of you, the player. You don’t have to make any decisions that can affect gameplay, nor are there any complicated strategies to get your head around. Sure, there are various betting systems, as there are with every table game, but there are no strategies that affect the outcome of the game.
Roulette bets are grouped into two categories: inside bets and outside bets. You’ll find that inside bets cover fewer numbers and offer higher payouts, whereas outside bets cover more numbers and offer lower payouts.
When playing roulette, you’ll see the betting table next to the wheel. This is where you put your chips to let the game know what bet(s) you want to place. The betting table has the numbers 1-36 in a table of three columns and twelve rows. Each number is given a colour (red or black) that matches the colour it is on the wheel.
Directly above the numbers is 0 - if you’re playing American roulette, there’ll be the double zero bet, or 00 bet, here as well. To the left-hand side are several other bets, while underneath the numbers are bets for each of the three columns.
Below is a summary of the main bets you can place playing European roulette. Note that some games may have additional bets available. All bet descriptions refer to the betting table. For the Six Line bet, for example, you look at the betting table and choose two rows that are adjacent to each other.

European Roulette Casinos
As previously mentioned, roulette is available to play at nearly every online casino you’ll come across. If you’re looking for European roulette casinos, you have plenty of options available to choose from.
A lot of casinos offer live versions of roulette. These are simply real-life games that are streamed live from a purpose built recording studios or even actual land-based casinos. If you opt into the game as a player, you can interact with the croupier whilst playing if you wish.
Live casino games offer a more immersive and interactive gaming experience than regular, animated roulette games. They replicate playing in a land-based casino or gaming venue, all while letting you play from the comfort of your own home.
When it comes to finding the ideal casino for playing European roulette, there are various things to consider. Of course, you’ll want to have a good range of roulette games to play. As well as this, you’ll want a generous welcome offer to make the most of. Plus plenty of regular promotions to keep your balance topped up and a player-friendly loyalty scheme is always a welcome addition, too.
