Double Bonus Poker Review

Any game holding a plus 99 percent RTP deserves your attention, and that’s just one of the reasons why you should play Double Bonus Poker. Along with the newer Double Double Bonus variant, this game provides something for all budgets. Naturally, you want to play with 5 coins if possible because that is the only way of hitting the 4000 coin jackpot, but even players with smaller bankrolls can enjoy some very handsome wins playing with only 1 or 2 coins.

What is Double Bonus Poker

There are three bonus poker games: the first was called Bonus Poker, then you have this one, and following it came Double Double Bonus Poker. Fundamentally, all of them are the same in that each is video poker - a virtual form of 5-card draw, and they all have the same minimum hand payout which is a pair of jacks or better. We’ll look at the pay table further down the page to analyse which variants are the best.

Playing the game could not be easier. The aim is to get the highest ranking poker hand possible. If you are totally new to poker, take a moment to look through the different hands so you are familiar with each.

To play, you select your bet size and number of coins, you then hit the ‘deal’ button. Your 5-card hand is shown. Most software will automatically hold your best cards but you can switch this feature off if you wish. From your first 5-card hand, decide which cards to hold (if any) by clicking on them. Once that is done, hit ‘draw’. The remaining cards are mucked and exchanged with different ones, and this hand is compared against the paytable to see if you have won. As you can see on the paytable below, each hand has a different value, so the exact amount you win depends on your hand.

Video poker is an exciting game and all-round very simple to play; however, if you want to master Double Bonus Poker, it pays to learn a basic strategy. This will guide you as to which cards to hold. By following a good strategy, you will improve the RTP which means winning more (or losing less) in the long term.

Double Bonus Poker Rules

5-card draw poker is all you need to know really. The Double Bonus Poker rules are fixed to that. It is the paytable which varies. This is what you win if playing the Microgaming version of this game.

We think there is a good mixture in this payout table. Players get good payouts on four aces and the cash for four 2s, 3, and 4s is also pretty decent, too.

That said, often paytables are not all they seem, and for new players it is easy to pick the wrong variant because of this. Below, we have compared the three bonus poker variants which highlight this.

So, the jackpot is the same 4000/5 = 800 coins, but then you see some much larger payouts for quads with Double Double Bonus Poker. This can be misleading to the untrained eye. You need to look at the payouts for the smaller hands - those hands that you hit more often. From these three games, the highest RTP is for Bonus Poker simply because it pays 2:1 when you get two pair. It doesn’t have the eye-catching payouts for quads, however. Of course, you might prefer to gamble a bit and hope to hit a big payout, but for steady players that want to keep the bankroll ticking over, the higher-valued small hand payouts are where you need to look.

Double Bonus Poker Bonus

Casino bosses are not known for handing out lavish bonuses to video poker players. After all, this is a business and you’re playing a game which returns £99 out of every £100 wagered over the long term (strategy dependent).

Still, you can claim most deposit related offers and use these as your Double Bonus Poker bonus. The wagering requirement will be rather high as video poker only contributes a fraction towards clearing it, but you only need one or two big hands, and you could come out with a profit.

Also, it’s worth assessing any reward schemes the casinos have to offer. How much do you have to wager playing Double Bonus for you to make a few pounds from those? Certainly, it won’t be hundreds of pounds in free cash but anything extra is great and it takes you nearer to matching the house edge.
