Vegas can make dreams come true - especially if you hit the Pai Gow Poker tables. A lucky Hawaiian tourist has walked away $330,000 richer from a single hand.

Pai Gow Poker Win: The Details

The anonymous player was trying his luck at the California Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. With a seven-card royal flush, the holiday goer landed the incredible win.

It marks the third major win in the last three months at Boyd Gaming establishments. In July of this year, another Hawaiian resident landed a $114k prize while playing a jackpot slot.

And in June, yet another guest landed $220k playing another jackpot slot. Both wins occurred at Fremont Hotel and Casino - another popular Boyd Gaming resort.

How to play and win Pai Gow Poker

Adapted from the Chinese gambling game Pai Gow - Pai Gow Poker uses cards rather than dominoes. The game starts with the dealer dealing out seven cards.

And the objective is to create two hands from this selection of cards. This is comprised of one two-card hand and a five-card poker hand. The rankings of each hand are virtually the same as poker, except "the wheel".

This hand is made up of Ace, Two, Three, Four and Five - and it's the second-highest hand in the game.

Following the perfect strategy, you can reduce the house edge down to 2.85% - making it a popular choice for advanced casino players.

In addition to the five-card and two-card hand - there are several pays for unique seven-card combos.

The most lucrative of these is the seven-card royal flush. Hitting this card combo in this game is no easy task.

For a royal flush win, you need to have a hand of Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace - all of the same suit. The chances of landing this hand are slim - but it can happen. And when it does, you will be rewarded.

Pai Gow Poker Strategy

  • Play the highest card in your high hand in the absence of pairs, straights or flushes

  • Dealt a single pair? Always keep it in your backhand (the five-card hand) - move the high cards to your front hand.

  • Dealt a two pair? Split them between each hand. Highest ranking pair goes in the back and the low ranking in the front.

  • Three of a kind hands always go in the backhand. Unless its three Aces - in which case you want to split. Two in the back - one in the front.

  • Different strategies apply to two three of a kind hands. The lowest three of a kind should be played in the back - and the highest-ranking hand should be split.
