Chelsea FC is currently negotiating with Stake.com for shirt sponsorship despite a forthcoming premier league ban
Chelsea FC is currently in negotiations with online gambling company Stake.com to become their new shirt sponsor. This move comes despite the impending prohibition on such sponsorships in football, set to take effect after the 2025-26 season.
The Premier League confirmed in April that gambling sponsorships on the front of shirts would be banned after the 2025-26 season. However, until that time, clubs are permitted to display betting brands prominently on their shirts, providing a window for such deals.
Chelsea FC has been actively seeking a new primary partner to replace Three, whose three-season agreement concludes this summer. This search was further spurred by the mobile network's attempt to sever ties with the club following sanctions against the former owner, Russian Roman Abramovich, last year.
The club has engaged in discussions with several potential alternatives, including German financial services company Allianz. However, Stake.com, an online casino and sports betting platform, has emerged as a strong contender. The company is keen on expanding its involvement in sports, and a partnership with Chelsea FC could be a significant step in that direction. Chelsea FC has declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations.
Separately, Australian news media reported this week suggestions that the Stake founders might set up a brand to target the Australian licensed betting market. Whichcasino.com has not been able to independently verify whether this is an active strategy for the brand.
